Organizational Structure

The duty of administering and implementing the activities of Western Provincial Department of Irrigation, an “A” grade department, which renders services in order to develop the minor irrigation systems within the western province, is vested with the Provincial Director of Irrigation. A “Grade-I Officer” of the Sri Lanka Engineering Service is appointed as the Provincial Director of Irrigation. The Provincial Director of Irrigation, under the supervision of the Secretary responsible for the subject, has the power to implement the provisions of Minor Irrigation Statute. In order to implement the provisions of the statute, 03 separate District Engineer’s Offices have been established for all 03 districts and 03 District Irrigation Engineers have been appointed as institutional heads. In addition to that all the duties of the department will be directed by the headquarters engineer attached to the main office. Further, all the financial transactions done under the expenditure head reserved for the department are carried out under the supervision of the Department’s Accountant. Accordingly, the powers, tasks and functions assigned to them are implemented and carried out under the supervision and provision of the Provincial Director of Irrigation.
